World: Malting barley markets tight worldwide, analysts say
Malting barley markets are tight worldwide, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their November report.
The EU surplus includes good French 6-row winter barley, but also high protein 2-row spring barley; Argentinas crop will turn out much smaller than expected due to a long drought period.
Canadas barley market is extremely firm, based on restocking of feed barley after last years crop failure. It leaves Australia with a likely record crop, incl. good qualities, at least from South Australia and Western Australia.
The USDA world barley import estimates show a good demand of malting barley (in thousand tonnes): Brazil 500, Mexico 500, unspecified Japan, Vietnam, Colombia/Peru/Ecuador, Ethiopia.
Analysts expect that the rather high premium of malting above feed barley will be maintained.
